Bad Bites/Malocclusion

Malocclusion, or a bad bite, involves teeth that are out of alignment, crooked, or crowded. Often this begins between the ages of six and twelve, as the permanent teeth emerge. Bad bite is the result of multiple causes which include thumb sucking, an inherited trait, or perhaps an injury earlier.

Bad bites can lead to jaw pain, headaches, and a less than attractive smile. For the severe conditions we see, surgery may be necessary to correct and realign the jawbones. But don’t lose hope. Orthodontics in the form of braces can correct misaligned and crooked teeth. If crowding is present, removing teeth can make room to avoid future problems.
