Being a kid has never been easier when it comes to dental care! Major breakthroughs over the last five decades mean fewer cavities in adults and children. We recommend that your child visit our office on their first birthday. This allows us to catch any problems in the future and take preventative care. It also allows us to create a positive experience for your child.

Over thirty years ago kids were told, “brush after every meal.” What a chore! The ADA now suggests children and adults brush twice a day and floss every day. Flossing increases oral health when brushing twice daily. With the added fluoride in water, you are ready fight off tooth decay like never before.

In the world of oral hygiene, fluoride is extremely effective in preventing tooth decay. It is the single most effective cavity prevention by improving oral health over your entire life. However, good health requires daily brushing and flossing to remove deposits between teeth. Fluoride cannot do that!

For increased health, we strongly recommend brushing with fluoride toothpaste. Brushing removes food particles and contaminants while fluoride gets in between teeth. Parents, watch your children to make sure they get all their teeth while brushing. Children under six should only use a dab of toothpaste smaller than a pea. Lastly, keep your children from swallowing the toothpaste.

Recently we have seen major improvement in the usage of dental sealants. The extra layer of protection helped many young children avoid a single cavity in those teeth.
